Winners of the 2008 Thailand Property Awards Announced
Thailand Property Report – 4 November 2008
BANGKOK, 1st November 2008 - At a lavish gala dinner the winners of the 2008 Thailand Property Awards were announced in front of 550 real estate and business executives from all over Thailand.
Held on the 1st November at Conrad Hotel, Bangkok, the annual Thailand Property Awards – now in their third year – saw a record turn out for the gala dinner. 550 real estate and business executives, representing over 92 companies, attended the gala dinner to find out who the 21 winners were this year.
The Thailand Property Awards recognise not only the winners of each award, but they also underline the high standard of Thailand's real estate industry as a whole.
“This year has been even more competitive than previous years. More than 360 companies were nominated and over 250 entries were received. And this year we made some changes to the award categories. And we introduced the Best Print Advertisement award,” said Duncan Worthington, Managing Director of organisers Ensign Media Co. Ltd.

Property Report Thailand Real Estate Personality of the Year - Gulu Lalvani, Chairman of Royal Phuket Marina |
“It's great to see so many worthy winners from around the country, and many new winners this year. To ensure complete impartiality in the nomination, entry and judging process, we engaged BDO Richfield Advisory Limited, a leading international accounting and consultancy firm to oversee the entire process,” said Worthington.
“BDO Richfield Advisory Limited were tasked with overseeing the awards process. Our role required us to ensure the nomination stage was carried out within the rules and that nominated companies and subsequent entries fitted the eligibility criteria of the respective awards. With regards to the judging, all scores were sent direct from the judges to us from which we calculated the highest scorers. And for the site inspections, local judging teams informed us of their chosen winner. We verified all the results and then informed the award organisers. Neither ourselves or the organisers allocated any points or influenced any judging. It was a long process, but was thorough and fair,” said Paul Ashburn, Senior Partner of BDO Richfield Advisory Limited.
This year there were 8 winners from Bangkok, 6 from Phuket, 2 from the Eastern Seaboard, 2 from Samui and 3 from Hua Hin. And for the first time, the Real Estate Personality of the Year was awarded to a Phuket developer.
The Real Estate Personality of the Year award is decided and presented by Property Report Thailand magazine. The winner is not subject to the same entry procedure as the other 20 awards. Property Report Thailand established this award to recognise the contributions and impact one person has had on the real estate industry in Thailand. Gulu Lalvani, Chairman of the Royal Phuket Marina, through his development's international marketing and his personal drive has helped to establish Phuket Island as one of the world's leading marine leisure destinations. And through Royal Phuket Marina has promoted Phuket and luxury real estate on Phuket throughout the world.
“We're very happy to see so many people participate in the awards this year and are pleased to welcome so many people to the gala dinner. Plans have already started for 2009, and they will be announced soon. For now, we should celebrate the achievements of the 2008 winners,” concluded Worthington.
