BDO & Olympic hockey

Press Release - Brussels, 2008 

As the Beijing games draw nearer, it is encouraging to note quite how much BDO is involved, especially on the Olympic hockey pitch.

On 30 June, Gareth Brooks of BDO Spicers in New Zealand had his selection for the Black Sticks Olympic team confirmed and extended his thanks ‘….to all at BDO, the experience I gained playing in the Netherlands whilst seconded to BDO CampsObers helped a great deal in my development as a player’. On 1 July, BDO Atrio, sponsor of the Belgian Hockey Association (ARBH) unveiled 2 massive sky posters in Belgium’s national airport, cheering on the Belgian hockey team.

On 17 July, a small piece appeared in Accountancy Age magazine in the UK: ‘A BDO Stoy Hayward staff member has won a place in the British Olympics squad. Jonty Clarke will be heading to Beijing later this summer with the Great Britain hockey team. The business assurance trainee follows in the footsteps of BDO's head of markets, Don Williams, himself a hockey Olympian in the Barcelona games in 1992.Williams said: 'We are extremely proud and pleased that Jonty has been chosen to represent his country in the 2008 Olympics. All the firm will be supporting him as he goes to China and we wish him and the rest of Team the very best of luck'. On the same day, the Great Britain team played a test match against fellow Olympic hopefuls Belgium at the Braxgata hockey club in Antwerp-Boom, Belgium, venue for the BDO Champions Challenge in July 2007. Jonty was playing, the game culminating in a 1:1 draw.

Looking at the Olympic line up as a whole, BDO Member Firms sponsor 5 of the 12 men’s teams' National Federations and 2 of the women’s so, whatever the outcome, BDO is going to have a good hockey Olympics:
